In the midst of all of the recent news and discussion of immigration, it's easy to forget that we are all foreigners on a journey to our final home, heaven.
This summer we are excited to bring back our faith on fire sessions. In addition to fielding your toughest questions, this summer we are also going to use these evenings to help give you answers that help you feel more confident discussing your faith when challenged by your friends, at school, or even at those summer family gatherings.
The Sabbath (aka Sunday) is an awesome holy day where God has called us to rest, grow closer to Him, and spend time with friends and family. And if you really want to make the sabbath holy, you need to do a few things:
- Get to Mass
- Spend time with loved ones
- Eat an Omelette.
Ok, that last one will be hard to prove biblically. BUT, we still think it's a good idea. SO, how about you join us at the Ciarrocchi's after 9:30 Mass for a "Faith on Fire: Sunday Kitchen Edition."
as our Summer of Spirit continues, we are going to help you with some of the "adulting" basics that are scary enough to make us want to go back to preschool. At our first Adulting session we discuss some of the jobs, topics, and responsibilities that we need to learn about to be ready to take on the world and glorify God in the process.
Sometimes it's tough to hear about God. In Youth Group, or Mass or even scripture, we hear about a God who supposedly reveals Himself to us. But sometimes it can be really difficult to know where to look, what He sounds like, or even to believe He is there at all.
Join us on Saturday, July 8th at the COHF Parish House as we continue our Summer of Spirit with our July Youth Night: Shattering Night. Whether you are deep in the Spirit right now, or struggling to find Him this night will help you find new and unique ways of shattering through the night to see the Light of the Spirit.
AND, as a special bonus, we celebrate and send off the Class of 2017. So make sure you spread the word to seniors that you are looking forward to seeing them and wishing them well in the next chapter on their journeys.
As always, PLEASE RSVP below so we will be able to have enough food for you.
Are you STRESSED OUT over exams? College? What to eat for dinner? STRESS NO MORE because our June Youth Night has been announced!
The topic of life, suicide and how to discuss the topic is receiving a great deal of attention recently as a result of the popular Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why. And, that makes a lot of sense. The series has caused both great controversy and interest as teens and adults alike try to figure out the best way to discuss the topic openly, honestly, and with an attempt to bring healing.
One of the things we have promised as a youth ministry is to be open, honest, and present to our teen community. That's why we've decided to give you a perspective on this series and the topics it discusses that perhaps you haven't heard before. So join us on Saturday night after 5:00 Mass for a very real conversation about the topic of life, death, and how to deal with those most difficult moments in our lives and and others as well.
Please be sure to bring a snack to share and sign up below so we have enough pizza and drinks for everyone. We look forward to seeing you for this very special night.
Pretty much all of the paintings, images, and sculptures of Jesus show Him as a pretty chill guy praying, healing, or holding us. And that was certainly a part of His ministry.
The reality, however, is that the heart of Christ and His message was pretty disrupting. Speaking love and truth, He disrupted the institutions of the day. He disrupted the conventional ways of thinking about God. Still today, He challenges us to disrupt our own lives to make room for Him.
Join us Saturday night in the basement of Church as we get a little disruptive and also celebrate the first youth group back from retreat. Please sign up using the RSVP form below so we will be sure to have enough food. Because of the celebration of Palm Sunday, we will not be downstairs until around 6:30. So come and join us for Mass and get focused for the MOST important week in the Church calendar.
OH...and be ready: we're going to be playing human Hungry Hungry Hippos
We are all drawn to the idea of a Happily Ever After written just for me. It’s no surprise that God wants the same for us. But sometimes, instead of letting God light that path toward true love we decide to go down our own path. Whether it’s The Bachelor, Celebrity instragrams, or even fairy tales, we decide that these examples of love are the ones to chase after.
In the face of tragedies---big and small---it can be easy to feel alone or hopeless. Sometimes, we may feel that God Himself might have abandoned us or could even punishing us. But the truth is that God's love is always with us--even in those moments when we are walking through valleys.
So, are you happy?
All of us desire happiness and we make decisions every day motivated by the pursuit of happiness. God graces us with the desire to seek happiness because, ultimately, He is the only one who can make our happiness complete. “God has placed happiness in the human heart in order to draw us to the one who alone can fulfill it."
It's such an amazing time of year!!! As we get ready to celebrate the coming of our Savior into the world and the immense gift of God's love our thoughts turn to sharing that love with others.
But, it also turns to some fun. And, in the world of youth ministry that means it's time for our annual Elf Cook Off. Only this year, we are not just limiting ourselves to a cook-off with the 4 Elf Food Groups (candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup). This year we are going to go full on "immerse in elf culture" with a few other North Pole inspired events. If you want to brush up, maybe even watch the movie Elf before Saturday night.
This week we will be meeting at the Ciarrocchi's following 5:00 Youth Mass. If you have a newbie to youth group, this would be a great event to attend. PLEASE RSVP as soon as possible. We have lots of supplies for this youth night that we need. So please sign up below by Friday to give us the time to prepare for you! Everyone who signs up before midnight on Friday night will be entered into a drawing for a special prize!
"Lord, I promise you so often get serious about my faith. But, here I am again feeling so far away from You. Whether it is distractions, a struggle I am facing, or my own decisions, I find myself not as strong in my faith as I want to be." Come away with us Friday night at the Church and let Him Draw You Close.
There are SO MANY different ways to pray. So, come join us to learn some new ideas from each other to deepen that personal relationship with God by learning how to talk to Him. Just drop in at 8:15 at the Parish House and we discuss a different aspect of prayer before heading over afterwards to celebrate Mass.
