Adulting 101

as our Summer of Spirit continues, we are going to help you with some of the "adulting" basics that are scary enough to make us want to go back to preschool.  At our first Adulting session we discuss some of the jobs, topics, and responsibilities that we need to learn about to be ready to take on the world and glorify God in the process.

May Youth Night: 13 Reasons Why Not

  • Holy Family Parish House

The topic of life, suicide and how to discuss the topic is receiving a great deal of attention recently as a result of the popular Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why.  And, that makes a lot of sense.  The series has caused both great controversy and interest as teens and adults alike try to figure out the best way to discuss the topic openly, honestly, and with an attempt to bring healing.

One of the things we have promised as a youth ministry is to be open, honest, and present to our teen community.  That's why we've decided to give you a perspective on this series and the topics it discusses that perhaps you haven't heard before.  So join us on Saturday night after 5:00 Mass for a very real conversation about the topic of life, death, and how to deal with those most difficult moments in our lives and and others as well.

Please be sure to bring a snack to share and sign up below so we have enough pizza and drinks for everyone.  We look forward to seeing you for this very special night.

April Youth Night: Disrupted

  • Church of the Holy Family Basement

Pretty much all of the paintings, images, and sculptures of Jesus show Him as a pretty chill guy praying, healing, or holding us.  And that was certainly a part of His ministry.

The reality, however, is that the heart of Christ and His message was pretty disrupting.  Speaking love and truth, He disrupted the institutions of the day.  He disrupted the conventional ways of thinking about God.  Still today, He challenges us to disrupt our own lives to make room for Him.

Join us Saturday night in the basement of Church as we get a little disruptive and also celebrate the first youth group back from retreat.  Please sign up using the RSVP form below so we will be sure to have enough food.  Because of the celebration of Palm Sunday, we will not be downstairs until around 6:30.  So come and join us for Mass and get focused for the MOST important week in the Church calendar.

OH...and be ready: we're going to be playing human Hungry Hungry Hippos

What Happens When I Fail

  • Church of the Holy Family Parish House

At youth group, we talk a lot about triumph.  Good over evil; Virtue over sin; God over satan. Yet sometimes, in our excitement to celebrate our faith, we sometimes forget that the same God who is Lord in our triumphs is the same Lord when we fail.

Red Zone Green Zone 2017: The BacheLURE

  • 70 Country Lane Hebron, CT

We are all drawn to the idea of a Happily Ever After written just for me.  It’s no surprise that God wants the same for us.  But sometimes, instead of letting God light that path toward true love we decide to go down our own path.  Whether it’s The Bachelor, Celebrity instragrams, or even fairy tales, we decide that these examples of love are the ones to chase after.

Broken: How do we respond to tragedy, trauma, and trials

  • Church of the Holy Family

In the face of tragedies---big and small---it can be easy to feel alone or hopeless. Sometimes, we may feel that God Himself might have abandoned us or could even punishing us. But the truth is that God's love is always with us--even in those moments when we are walking through valleys.

January Youth Night: The Complete and Total Guide to Human Happiness

So, are you happy?

All of us desire happiness and we make decisions every day motivated by the pursuit of happiness. God graces us with the desire to seek happiness because, ultimately, He is the only one who can make our happiness complete. “God has placed happiness in the human heart in order to draw us to the one who alone can fulfill it."

It's such an amazing time of year!!!  As we get ready to celebrate the coming of our Savior into the world and the immense gift of God's love our thoughts turn to sharing that love with others.

But, it also turns to some fun.  And, in the world of youth ministry that means it's time for our annual Elf Cook Off.  Only this year, we are not just limiting ourselves to a cook-off with the 4 Elf Food Groups (candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup). This year we are going to go full on "immerse in elf culture" with a few other North Pole inspired events.  If you want to brush up, maybe even watch the movie Elf before Saturday night.

This week we will be meeting at the Ciarrocchi's following 5:00 Youth Mass.  If you have a newbie to youth group, this would be a great event to attend.  PLEASE RSVP as soon as possible.  We have lots of supplies for this youth night that we need.  So please sign up below by Friday to give us the time to prepare for you!  Everyone who signs up before midnight on Friday night will be entered into a drawing for a special prize!

Youth Night: Atheism

  • Ciarrocchi's

How do we know God exists?

This is this one of the most fundamental questions of our human existence.  Additionally, we can feel hesitant in trying to share our faith with others when we can feel weak in defending our own faith.

At our August Youth Night we dive into some of the questions surrounding atheism and learn how to respond to them in love.

Faith On Fire: July

Every summer we hold a series of Friday night gatherings together under the stars and around a fire where we discuss faith in the real world.  Rather than a formal “youth night” these nights are more like casual discussions that start from questions asked by you.

This summer we are excited to bring them back.  In addition to fielding your toughest questions, this summer we are also going to use these evenings to help give you answers that help you feel more confident discussing your faith when challenged by your friends, at school, or even at those summer family gatherings.

Our event is “weather permitting” so keep an eye on our website if the weather is sketchy.  Hope to see you there!

    July Youth Night: Connected

Join us Saturday, July 9th for our Summer Youth Night: Connected.  In an age where we can "know" people through a simple button that says "follow" it is increasingly hard to feel truly close.  As we see examples or hurt and tragedy it becomes clear the importance of being a little more connected to our God, to ourselves, and to our world.

This Saturday at Youth Night we explore the idea of connection.  We will share some practical ideas about how you can stay more connected with God, and share that connection with others.
